Ever
have to deal with a bully? My experience with one came in the 7th
grade when all the country kids had to come to town school. When you
have spent 6 years in a school that has the atmosphere of a family,
you think everyone is your friend. Life has a way of rudely awakening
you.
I don't remember her name, but I remember her. She was older -- and
larger -- REALLY large, and she carried a chip on her shoulder as
oversized as she was. She had 2 cronies who were always with her.
For whatever reasons, (do they have to have one?) she set her sights
on me. She began to threaten me, tellin me she was gonna "whip
my butt." I walked a wide path around her, not only because I
figured she could do it, but also because I hated seeing "cat
fights" and never wanted to be involved in one. She was relentless
and one day, my "day" came. |

I was in the girl's bathroom
and there she sood with "Dumb and Dumber," all bowed up
and looking ugly. No one else was anywhere around. My goose was
cooked. First, fear hit me. Then, I got mad. I figured
if I was going down, I'd do some damage on the way. I squared off,
brought my hands up in front of my face and made two fists. (I'd
seen that in the movies) I think I said something to the affect
of, "You may whip me, but I guarantee it'll be after the fight."
The most amazing thing happened after that. They stood there for
a miunute just looking stupid and then turned around and walked
away! She never bothered me anymore from that day on.
I learned something from that.
Bullies are cowards. They always run in packs and attack the weak
like coyotes. Yield to them and they will only demand more. They
feed off of fear. Seems to me, America is having to deal with some
big time bullies. Some nations, like Sudan, are too weak to defend
themselves without outside help. Other nations, like Spain, cowed
down after the first hit. Spain is in their hip pocket and they
know it. A friend of ours is from Sudan and he says the bombings
in their villages stopped once America went into Iraq because they
were being financed entirely by Sadaam.
Bullies. We'd like to think
the world is just "one bit happy family." Reality is that
bullies still exist, and though we'd like to avoid a fight at all
costs, sometimes you get cornered in the bathroom, and the only
way out is to fight!
