I have the great privilege of writing 2 articles each month that go out to 8 different magazines. I really enjoy the ones that are thought provoking, yet remain funny and I try to write at least one of the articles, if not both, that way. But for whatever reason, this month I can't seem to do it. I want to apologize for that, and yet I cannot. I went to bed last night after hearing the ranting of a liberal woman who called us to be gentle with terrorists, and called Pres. Bush "a wicked, cruel man, a weak leader and a terrorist". (I take it she doesn't believe in being gentle with all "terrorist", only those who blow up people, not in an act of war, but in senseless hatred and violence.) The news also sported a man who had been allowed to go free after molesting children because he "cried and was sorry"---only to report he has struck again. We have all recently watched as the jurors in Michael Jackson's trial acquitted him, not because they believed him to be innocent, but because they despised the mother of the victim. Hundreds of people gathered to his support, not because he is the picture of purity, but simply because he is a tremendously gifted singer and entertainer.

This morning in reading a book, I was awestruck by a statement quoted from the writings of Ayn Rand, where she commented on the thinking processes of this day, that demands, "we must love everything, except virtue, and forgive everything, except greatness". How true! "Tolerance" is the word of the hour. Tolerance that is, for everything and everyone except those who seek to rise above the degradation of our society, and walk with an honor that calls them to greater things than living for themselves. Men of utter wickedness have the world running to their aid, while men of valor are despised and slandered---such is the case of Guantanamo Bay.

We have a call within us to rise above mediocrity, to walk in greatness. We have a command from God to live a standard of holiness, purity, integrity and valor that far exceeds the norm of society. God has created you for greatness! Very few answer that call, but for those who do, do not be so naive as to expect the world to applaud. It will not. Honor is hated these days by an innumerable mass of people. Live honorably anyway. I love men like Oliver North who stood strong in his integrity and held to honor in a time where honor was as rare as chicken's teeth. So are these times. Hold true to what's right, even if you stand-alone. Heroes are never considered heroes, nor are they honored by the masses as such, until they are dead. In almost all cases, they are hated by their contemporaries. Be a hero! But know this, that heroes are like eagles, they don't travel in masses, you will always find them standing alone.
